Before you start configuring email in DRD, you need to check settings with the service provider. Many providers require explicit permission to send emails using external programs. It is also necessary to find out the need to enable SSL protection and its parameters, which will then need to be entered in the DRD settings. It is advisable to check these settings using one of the popular email clients: Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Opera Mail or others.
The client built into DRD can work with various types of mail servers, which differ greatly in the necessary settings: SMTP is a universally recognized standard supported by the majority of both modern and old servers. Google API - a secure interface from a well-known brand Microsoft 365.
The Gmail Is My Email Provider check box makes further settings a little easier by the fact that when you check the Outgoing Mail Server SSL port, the lines needed to work through the Gmail server are recorded. But the previous settings are not remembered, so when you remove this checkmark, nothing changes and the server and port settings must be checked and changed if necessary. You can also change the server and port settings when the Gmail Is My Email Provider check box is checked. That is, this tick “works” only at the time of its installation, nothing else depends on it after that. All other controls work as expected and therefore do not need a separate description. They must be filled in according to the requirements of the provider.
After changing the settings, you need to check them by sending a test message using the “Test settings” button. If the message “Message sent successfully” is displayed and the email actually arrives at the address specified in the “Email address” field, the settings are correct.
